Experience the beautiful landscape of the Peak District in Winter on this popular challenging 17 mile hike. Starting at Cromford Meadows, near Matlock the route follows the Cromford Canal and old railway line which takes you past the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Be prepared to get your heart really pumping as you tackle the first two miles uphill to the impressive Black Rocks which overlook the Trail, the walk up to them will be rewarded with spectacular views. The next two mile climb takes you to Middleton Top where the restored Engine House and Visitor Centre are situated. The Butterley company built the steam winding engine in 1892 to raise and lower wagons on the Middleton Incline. Follow the reamainder of the High Peak Trail and take in the rolling limestone countryside and wonderful scenery before you finish at Hurdlow, near Buxton where return transport back to Cromford is provided.
